The German engineers knew this would happen!

AMG shifter. Ze auto ist fur driving nicht drinking.
![]() 05/15/2014 at 11:56 |

The engineers at AMG are crying right now because you decided to take your car to an American fast food eatery and attempt to jam their cups in the cupholders. They made them that size to try and keep us from soiling their cars with gallons of soda...but 'Murica!!!

Fahren nicht trinken.
![]() 05/15/2014 at 11:57 |

Oh boohoo. Try driving with a large Jamocha being held between your thighs while shifting your own gears on a pothole ridden street.

In America, we do both!

Zilly Americans is what they were thinking, and I can't blame them. Autisticly only considering my own experience and perspective I don't see the point of cup holders other than inefficiently holding small crap. Who drinks from cups in their car?
![]() 05/15/2014 at 12:01 |

Germany disapproves.
![]() 05/15/2014 at 12:01 |

I use them to transport giant cups of soda from McDonald's to my house, but that is all.

My car doesn't even have cup holders. I do not understand your complaint. :-P
![]() 05/15/2014 at 12:04 |

Americans, apparently. I'd never drink out of a cup in my car, but I have been known to pick up fast food - okay, McDonalds - to take away, and if I didn't have this convenient gap:
(Which just so happens to be perfectly-sized to accept your average fast food cup.)
I'd probably want at least one cup holder.

There's your issue right there. If it were manual you could leave it in 2nd or 4th and get more room for your cups.
![]() 05/15/2014 at 12:09 |

It's amazing what portion of my dash is unusable with those soda bathtubs in the cupholders. Disclaimer: I do not in any way condone the use of cups in vehicles. Bottles or don't bring it. This is not a habit.

My car did come with cupholders, two of them next to the hand brake and two more for the rear passengers. It didn't come with a center armrest in front. So I sourced an OEM arm rest, which I then mounted over the cupholders. Now the rear passengers have 4 cup holders and you've got none in front. I haven't missed them for a second.

They just don't understand that sometimes 40 kg of soda needs to be transported inside a vehicle in an open container.
![]() 05/15/2014 at 12:18 |
|
I mean, when do you not drive with that much soda in an open container? Almost never.
![]() 05/15/2014 at 12:19 |
|
I don't drink in my car, so I'm utterly indifferent as to whether some means of spill-prone drinks containment is actually accessible to people sitting in the front, but I do occasionally need to transport improperly contained drinks from one place to the next, and I'd miss having some means to prop them up.

This is America, and I want, no, I demand to mainline 35425 grams of sugar water+caffeine at any time, especially while driving.
![]() 05/15/2014 at 12:26 |

It's the main reason to go driving in the first place! Such a relaxing place to enjoy something that is slowly killing you.

Wow, the gif progression on this thread...

I mean I don't know why you wouldn't be able to, it's basically the underlying fabric of American driving culture.

The boyfriend does not allow food or drink in his Mustang or Miata, but he really really wanted Sonic drive-in for experience glorious America.
Him: "I keep hearing these Sonic ads, can we go get Sonic?"
Me: "Sure, go ahead, why are you asking me...?"
Him: "Well, we're not eating in MY cars..."
Now I know how he really feels about my Jeep :(
